Portable Fire Extinguishers

Dry Chemical

Dry chemical extinguishers put out fire by coating the fuel with a thin layer of dust, separating the fuel from the oxygen in the air. The powder also works to interrupt the chemical reaction of fire, so these extinguishers are extremely effective at putting out fire.

Carbon Dioxide

A carbon dioxide (CO2) fire extinguisher is a portable, active fire protection device that works by expelling carbon dioxide onto a fire. It works by displacing the oxygen the fire relies upon to continue burning, and it is primarily used to extinguish fires in which the source of the fuel is a flammable liquid or gas.

Wet Chemical

The extinguishing agent can be comprised of, but is not limited to, solutions of water and potassium acetate, potassium carbonate, potassium citrate, or a combination of these chemicals (which are conductors of electricity). The liquid agent typically has a pH of 9.0 or less. On Class A fires, the agent works as a coolant. On Class K fires (cooking oil fires), the agent forms a foam blanket to prevent reignition. The water content of the agent aids in cooling and reducing the temperature of the hot oils and fats below their autoignition point. The agent, when discharged as a fine spray directly at cooking appliances, reduces the possibility of splashing hot grease and does not present a shock hazard to the operator. Wet chemical extinguishers also offer improved visibility during firefighting as well as minimizing cleanup afterward.

amerex non magnetic

Non-Magnetic

Certain environments require the presence of fire safety equipment that’s not susceptible to magnetic force, such as computer server rooms, operation theatres, medical treatment rooms etc.

Non-magnetic fire extinguishers are available in a range of types, each suited to the variety of different uses throughout healthcare facilities.

amerex foam

Foam

Foam fire extinguishers can be used on Class A and B fires. They are most suited to extinguishing liquid fires such as petrol or diesel and are more versatile than water jet extinguishers because they can also be used on solids such as wood and paper. The foam extinguishes liquid fires by sealing the surface of the liquid, preventing flammable vapour reaching the air and starving the fire of fuel. They are not suitable for use on free flowing liquid fires.

amerex wheeled

Regulated Wheeled

Amerex® REGULATED PRESSURE WHEELED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS feature a 110 cu ft nitrogen cylinder with a pressure regulator and 2 1/2″ x 36″ steel wheels. This traditional design allows for adequate pressure to ensure a smooth, complete discharge of the dry chemical with a pressure reserve for blowing down the discharge hose. Easy to transport and operate by one person. USCG approved.
